Gorgasm: Orgy of murder

There are two offshoots to the Cannibal Corpse style of death metal, one being the finer that embraced the band’s ability to create intelligently crafted tunes from extreme metal and the other those who lean towards the brutal side of things, straightforward like Dying Fetus.
From the first riff off “Orgy of Murder”, and then especially riffs at 00:48 of the opener or 00:57 of “Dirty Cunt Beatdown” (my apologies to every woman I have ever loved) and the riff at 2:41 of “Exhibit of Repugnance”, we know which style Indiana’s Gorgasm land in.
Personally I don’t enjoy up front slam-metal where the pace of the record suddenly becomes its most striking aspect as I fear it makes the substandard songwriting glaring – this is where “Orgy of Murder” falls short for me, the contrast between fast and slow is too obvious.
So being an avid fan of brutal death of the more ah ‘intricate’ kind, I cannot find much to enjoy with “Orgy of Murder”; the band’s drummer is the most memorable aspect, the guitars appear to whizz past in blunt-force trauma.
Some of the faster riffs are not bad if they weren’t for the most part in repeats of 4/4 structure, as sometimes they remind me of Defeated Sanity’s “Prelude to the Tragedy”, but otherwise the replay value of this record is remote, surprising for a band that appears to be thought of very highly.
